ISABELLE
An original experience on board the accommodation ship Isabelle X.
A former Baltic Sea ferry, the Isabelle was purchased and converted by Canadian company Bridgemans to provide luxurious accommodation for workers at the Woodfibre LNG construction site in Howe Sound, near Vancouver. It’s another new experience for Eric to command a “Floatel”, which has very special operations. Welcome aboard!
The Wheelhouse
On Deck 12, the bridge is the highest point of the accommodation. The view of the mountains surrounding Howe Sound is magnificent.
The Sky Lounge
On the aft of deck 11, above the offices and meeting rooms, is this beautiful, bright lounge with breathtaking views.
The VIP Restaurant
Located in the middle of deck 8, on the port side, this superb space is open on request, for receptions and special operations.
The Car Deck
The former garage deck was completely transformed to meet the needs of the ship’s new operations. Residents access the ship via the starboard side, which is equipped with individual heated lockers and large sinks for washing hands. Forward is one of the ship’s two medical centres. The port side is reserved for the crew; this is where all logistical operations take place (provisioning, waste management, baggage storage, laundry), and where new heat pumps were installed to provide air conditioning for the ship in all seasons.
The Engine Room
In the bowels of the beast lies an impressive cavalry: 4 propulsion engines, together developing more than 32,000 horsepower!
- Engines: Wärtislä-Pielstick 12 PC2.6V-400E
- Power: 4 x 8,076 hp (4 x 5,940 Kw) @ 520 rpm
- 2 Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP)
- Service speed: 21.5 Knots
- Generators: Wärtsilä 6R32
- Power: 4 x 2,045 Kw
- Propulseur d’étrave : 2.200 Kw (2.990 cv)
A fun fact: Isabelle's generators are the same engines as the Silver Explorer's propulsion engines!
The Outside Decks
One can cool off (or sunbathe) all around deck 9, and fully appreciate the ever-changing magnificent scenery of British Columbia!
